Virtual Dog Training
Hi, I’m Helene Scott, the certified master dog trainer behind the Florida Dog Training School of Tampa. Virtual dog training is a live, real-time session conducted over Zoom where I watch you and your dog interact, coach you through each technique, and adjust based on what I am actually seeing in the moment.
You are in your home. I am on your screen. And everything I do is personalized to the two of you. After 25 years of training dogs, I can tell you this: so much of what makes training work is not what happens to the dog, it is what happens to the owner. I teach you the techniques, the timing, and the consistency that gets results.
- Every session is live and one-on-one, never pre-recorded
- Personalized to your dog's temperament and your goals
- I offer both in-person AND virtual, unlike virtual-only trainers
- Written session notes and between-session support always included
- Aggressive dog cases handled in-person only, always

Frequently Asked Questions
Virtual dog training is a live, one-on-one training session conducted over Zoom. You and your dog are in your home, and I am right there with you on screen, watching in real time, coaching you through each step, and correcting things as they happen. It is not a pre-recorded video or a generic online course. Every session is personalized to you and your dog, just like my in-person training, only delivered through your phone, tablet, or computer.
For the right behaviors and the right dog, absolutely yes. The truth is that so much of dog training is really about training the owner. I need to teach you the techniques, the timing, and the consistency that gets results. I can do all of that just as effectively over Zoom. Where virtual training shines is with foundational obedience, puppy training, leash manners, and behavioral issues like jumping, barking, and anxiety. For cases that require me to physically handle the dog, such as aggression, in-person training is the only responsible choice.
Virtual training works well for dogs of all breeds and sizes when the situation does not require me to be physically present with the dog. Dogs that are energetic, easily distracted, or anxious in new environments often actually do better learning in their own home where they feel safe and comfortable. The home environment is also where most behavioral issues show up, so working through them right there often produces faster results.
Puppies can start as early as eight weeks old, and I actually encourage early training because the habits you build in those first few months set the foundation for everything that comes after. Older dogs are equally welcome. The idea that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks is one of the biggest misconceptions in this industry. I have worked with dogs of all ages and seen remarkable transformations at every stage of life.
Yes, and honestly that is sometimes easier than working with a dog that has learned bad habits. Starting from scratch means we get to build everything the right way from the beginning. Whether your dog knows nothing or knows a little, we will start where you are and build from there.
Virtual training covers a wide range of behaviors including basic obedience commands like sit, stay, come, down, and leave it, as well as leash manners, jumping on people, excessive barking, pulling on the leash, separation anxiety, resource guarding at mild to moderate levels, puppy biting and mouthing, crate training, and general behavior modification. If you are not sure whether your dog's issue is a good fit for virtual training, just reach out and we can talk it through during your free consultation.
Aggression cases are never handled virtually. That includes dog-to-dog aggression, aggression toward people, and fear-based aggression. These situations require me to be physically present so I can read the dog's full body language, manage the environment safely, and step in hands-on when needed. Attempting to address serious aggression through a screen is not something I am willing to do because the safety of your dog, your family, and anyone else in the environment depends on proper in-person assessment and handling.
No, and I want to explain that honestly rather than just say no. Aggressive dog training requires me to be physically present with your dog. I need to see the full picture, body language, environment, and triggers, in real time. A video call simply does not give me what I need to do this safely and effectively. I have worked with aggressive dogs for 25 years and I take these cases very seriously. Please reach out and we can talk about in-person options. Getting this right matters more than convenience, and I am here to help you get it right.
YouTube videos and online courses give you general information, but they do not know your dog. They cannot watch you give a command and tell you that your timing is off by two seconds. They cannot see that your dog is showing signs of stress and redirect the session before things go sideways. What I offer is a live conversation between you, your dog, and a master trainer with 25 years of experience who is watching every move in real time and customizing every instruction to what is actually happening in front of me. That is an entirely different experience.
I am a certified master dog trainer with 25 years of experience running my own dog training business in the Tampa Bay area. I trained under Anthony Jerone, founder of one of the most respected dog training academies in the country, and I completed 200 hours of hands-on apprenticeship before ever working with clients independently. I have trained dogs with a wide range of behavioral issues, worked with hundreds of families, and mentored others who went on to become professional trainers themselves. The method of delivery changes with virtual training, but the expertise behind every session stays exactly the same.
All of my virtual sessions are conducted over Zoom. It is free to download, works on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers, and most people are already familiar with it. If you have never used Zoom before, do not worry. I will walk you through it before our first session so you feel comfortable before we get started.
You need a device with a camera and a stable internet connection. That can be a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a webcam. A phone or tablet on a stand or propped up somewhere stable often works best because it gives me a good view of you and your dog without you having to hold it. You do not need any special equipment beyond that.
Set up in an area where your dog is comfortable and where you have enough room to move around and work with them. Remove major distractions if you can, but do not stress about making it perfect because the home environment is actually part of the training. Have your dog's favorite treats cut into small pieces and ready to go, a leash and collar or harness on hand, and any other tools we have discussed. I will always confirm what to have ready before each session.
If your connection cuts out during a session, we will reconnect and continue from where we left off. If the connection is too unstable to work effectively, we will reschedule at no penalty to you. I always recommend doing a quick test of your connection before our first session just to make sure everything is working smoothly. If Zoom is not working well on a particular day, we can discuss alternative options.
Virtual dog training through Florida Dog Training School is available to clients anywhere in Florida and across the United States. I serve clients in Wesley Chapel, Tampa, Land O Lakes, Lutz, Zephyrhills, New Tampa, and well beyond the Tampa Bay area. Clients outside my local in-person service area are served through virtual training for non-aggressive cases.
Each session runs approximately one hour. Depending on the program we design together, some sessions may run slightly longer, up to about 90 minutes, particularly when we are working through a new behavior or when your dog needs more time to process what we are covering. I never rush a session just to hit a time limit.
That depends on your dog, the behaviors we are working on, and how consistently you practice between sessions. Some clients see significant improvement in just a few sessions. Others benefit from a full six-week program. During your free consultation, I will listen to what you are dealing with and give you an honest recommendation for how many sessions makes sense for your situation. I am not interested in selling you more sessions than you need.
Absolutely, and I actually encourage it. Everyone in the household interacts with the dog, which means everyone needs to be on the same page with the training approach. Inconsistency between family members is one of the most common reasons training does not stick. The more people who participate in the sessions, the better and faster the results tend to be.
This happens, and it is completely normal. Dogs have off days just like people do. If your dog is not in the right headspace for training on a given day, we will adjust. Sometimes that means scaling back what we planned to cover. Sometimes it means exploring what might be causing the resistance and addressing that first. I have been doing this long enough to work with whatever the dog gives us on any particular day.
My virtual training rates vary based on your location relative to my Wesley Chapel service area, with single sessions and six-week packages priced by zone. Use the pricing calculator on this page to get an estimate based on your zip code. Your final rate will be confirmed during your free consultation.
I offer both. Single standalone sessions work well for clients who want to address a specific issue or try virtual training before committing to a longer program. My six-week package includes one session per week at one to one and a half hours per session and is designed to build real, lasting skills over time. During our consultation I will tell you honestly which option I think will serve you and your dog best.
Life happens and I understand that. I ask that you give me as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Please reach out directly and we will find a time that works. I treat my clients the way I would want to be treated, and I apply that same standard to scheduling.
Yes, always. Before any client commits to a session or package, I offer a free consultation. Depending on your situation and location, that can be done by phone or over Zoom. This gives me a chance to learn about your dog, understand what you are dealing with, and make sure virtual training is the right fit. It also gives you a chance to get a feel for how I work before you invest anything.
I accept check, cash, Venmo, Zelle, and credit card.
Before every session I will give you a specific list of what to have ready based on what we are working on. Generally speaking, you will want small, high-value treats your dog goes crazy for, a leash, a properly fitted collar or harness, and enough space to move around. I may also recommend specific training tools depending on your dog's needs, and I will always explain why I recommend anything before you use it.
Consistency between sessions is what makes training stick. Short, frequent practice is far more effective than long, infrequent sessions. I typically recommend five to ten minutes of focused practice a few times a day. It does not have to be complicated, but it does have to be consistent. I will always send you home with a clear plan so you know exactly what to work on until we meet again.
Yes. After each session I will provide you with a summary of what we covered, what to practice, and any adjustments to make before the next session. Having a written reference to go back to between sessions makes a real difference, especially when you are learning new techniques and want to make sure you are doing them correctly.
We talk about it. If something is not working, I need to know. There is always a reason, whether it is timing, consistency, the training environment, or something about how the technique is being applied. Nothing in training is one-size-fits-all, and I am always ready to adjust the approach. I would rather hear that something is not clicking and fix it than have you quietly struggle between sessions.
Yes. I stay in touch with my clients between sessions because the work does not stop when the Zoom call ends. If a question comes up while you are practicing, reach out. I want you to feel supported throughout the entire process, not just during the hour we are on screen together.
Yes, when the training is done right. The goal of everything I teach is to help you become the trainer your dog needs, not to create a dependency on me. When you understand why a technique works and how to apply it consistently, those skills belong to you and your dog permanently. That said, some clients do benefit from occasional follow-up sessions down the road, especially when life changes, like a new baby, a move, or a new pet in the home, create new challenges. I am always here when you need me.
When a six-week package wraps up, we will do a final review of everything your dog has learned and talk through what to keep reinforcing on your own. If you feel like you need additional sessions beyond the package, we can absolutely continue working together. I do not believe in abrupt endings. My goal is for you to walk away confident, capable, and connected to your dog, and I will support you for as long as it takes to get there.
